In Saugatuck fitness comes naturally for the locals as it’s easy to walk for miles and miles — each step surrounded by beauty. You could walk for hours along our singing sand beaches at Oval Beach and Saugatuck Harbor Natural Area, wind your way through the dunes and trails at the Saugatuck Dunes State Park, or simply thread your way through the unique shops, boutiques, studios and galleries throughout downtown Saugatuck … maybe even venturing over the bridge into downtown Douglas.

If you want to step it up a notch, try tackling the 302 stairs up the towering dune at Mt. Baldhead Park. Be sure and pause, catch your breath, and turn around along the way so you can get a sneak peek of the expansive views as they emerge. Once you complete the ascent, enjoy! You can make your way back down the stairs, or wind your way down the sandy trails, enjoying views of Lake Michigan all along the way.

If walking is not your speed, there are so many other excellent choices for health and wellness in Saugatuck.

Jump in and run one of our 5K, 10K, or 15K races: The Town Crier, the Mt. Baldhead Challenge, and the Fenn Valley Vine Wine’d each offer gorgeous courses with interesting terrain.

Spend hours biking through town and out into idyllic country roads. Need a snack along the way? You’ll find plenty of farm stands dotting the landscape offering one of nature’s superfoods … Michigan blueberries! Of course, you’ll also find an abundance of peaches, cherries, raspberries, blackberries, apricots, plums, and more.

Or, get out onto the water. You can kayak, canoe, paddleboard, kiteboard, windsurf, sail, fish, or … simply hop in and swim. There’s no shortage of opportunities to explore our amazing freshwater: Lake Michigan, Lake Kalamazoo, and the Kalamazoo River make up the perfect combination of playgrounds.
