Mt. Baldhead

Strap on your tennis shoes and prepare yourself for a challenge. We may not have mountains in West Michigan, but we do have some surprisingly steep sand dunes. Mt. Baldhead is a gorgeous dune that seems to ascend straight from the Kalamazoo River. The more than 300 steps up will get your heart pumping. Make it as much of a workout as you like. Take your time climbing enjoying plenty of stops to take in the views and shoot a selfie. Linger at the top to take in the views while planning your trip back down. Are you in the mood for going back down the stairs? Maybe you’d prefer trails that open up into expansive views of the Lake Michigan shoreline?

Or, take things up a notch. Climb non-stop before pausing at the top to take in the views and then turn around to work your way back down. If you’re craving more, go ahead and repeat! The locals claim bragging rights any time 3 or more climbs are completed in one workout.

Saugatuck Dunes State Park

This 1000 acre park boasts more than 2.5 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. Here, you can hike, run, and swim until you’ve reached every fitness goal for the day.
