Our seasonal New American breakfast menu and offerings of afternoon sweets and evening “Social Hour” nibbles all celebrate Michigan’s abundance of local artisan ingredients. Our impossibly comfortable beds, featuring cloudlike Vispring mattresses made of hand-tufted British wool, provide the kind of rest that you dream about.

For your rehearsal dinner, you might consider Bowdie’s Chophouse, a Sinatra-era charmer with a quaint private room and reliably professional service. Or look into the “mini-Versailles” of The Belvedere, boutique inn sitting on more than five acres of beautifully landscaped gardens—the locally sourced ingredients and genteel setting make for an unforgettable private dinner.

We wouldn’t be speaking out of turn by saying that the Wickwood Inn is an ideal location for your reception. Though we are capped at 22 overnight guests, we can hold up to 28 for a cocktail party on our outdoor terrace. On a temperate evening, there is no more bucolic spot in Saugatuck than in our beautifully landscaped gardens, toasting under the twinkly lights of the arbor sanctuary. You can customize the experience to your desires, whether with a customized dinner menu courtesy of chef Rose Duong or a brunch for Wickwood guests. 

If you do venture beyond the comfy surroundings of the Wickwood, you’ll find plenty of ways to amuse yourself in the lovely villages of Saugatuck and Douglas without having to brave the elements. Try bowling at the quaint Alley’s Diner or a game of darts or pinball in the barrel room of Saugatuck Brewing Company. Check out what’s playing on the big screen at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts or go gallery-hopping at the more than 20 galleries and studios that call Saugatuck home.

On the outskirts of town you’ll find the little hamlet of Fennville. There, among the rolling hills and farmland, find two of our favorite places to while away an hour or two. Take a tasting tour of Fenn Valley Vineyards or Virtue Cider for an afternoon of swirling and sipping. Or if craft beer is your beverage of choice, belly up to the bar at the Guardian Brewing Company back in Saugatuck.

If you’d like a little privacy, we can arrange a private tasting for two at the J. Petter Wine Gallery downtown, where you’ll be guided through a carefully curated tasting tour of some of the world’s best vineyard varietals. A private cider tasting at Virtue Cider can also be arranged in advance. Looking for some live music to wind down your day? You’ll find an eclectic roster of live acts at Salt of the Earth or Waypost Brewing Company in Fennville.

Getaway Day: 1

After a sustaining New American breakfast at the Wickwood, the moment you step out the door you’re in downtown Saugatuck’s charming shopping haven. Nestled along tree-lined streets perfect for leisurely strolls, boutique storefronts and eclectic stores showcase a diverse array of treasures, from locally crafted art and jewelry to upscale fashion and home decor.

From there, your winter adventure starts with a stop to rent snowshoes at Landsharks. The locally owned shop’s knowledgeable staff ensures a seamless experience for both beginners and seasoned outdoorsy types to explore the serene landscapes surrounding Saugatuck, from snow-covered trails to scenic vistas.

Return to the Wickwood Inn where we can arrange for a deep-tissue massage to soothe your aching muscles. Book a three-day stay, and your massage will be included in the price of select rooms.

For dinner, make reservations at Everyday People Cafe, a charming standout in neighboring Douglas. The inviting atmosphere and creative menu—think braised lamb shank with leek-chive mashed potatoes and pickled fennel—make it the perfect spot for a memorable repast.
