New Romantics

Saugatuck is the perfect place to snuggle into Valentine’s Day with your partner. And this year, the Wickwood Inn is taking things to the next level.

Reserve a room for two-night minimum between February 14th and 17th and go all in by adding on a three-course Valentine’s dinner for two in our welcoming dining room, courtesy of award-winning chef Rose Duong. The celebration includes a bubbly toast and dishes such as a tender filet mignon with root vegetables and mashed potatoes or a white miso Chilean sea bass with baby bok choy, shitake mushroom, and sticky rice. All we ask is five days of advance notice and we’ll take care of the rest.

Or you can sweeten the deal with our Valentine’s Romance Package—a whirlwind of pink Mondial roses, bubbly on ice, and locally sourced goodies from Patricia’s Chocolates. Either way, the Wickwood Inn is the perfect home base for your romantic Saugatuck getaway.

“Love doesn’t make the world go ’round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.”

Spend the rest of your retreat exploring the area the endless possibilities for fresh air, shopping, and general relaxation. Bundle up and enjoy a one-hour carriage ride through the woods, courtesy of Wild West Ranch, a family-owned and -operated horse center. Or, if the weather cooperates, you can make your dreams real and go dashing through the snow on Wild West’s one-horse open sleigh. Either way, from under the warmth of a wool blanket, you’ll be immersed in the area’s gorgeous woods.

Enjoy the coziest wine tasting in Michigan by booking a private igloo at Fenn Valley Vineyards. Under the warmth of blankets and an electric heater, you and your partner can canoodle while simultaneously sampling Fenn Valley’s wine, hard cider, and charcuterie—all with a view of the production vineyards.

Shop to your heart’s content at destinations such as Lulu Cadieux. This charming French-themed boutique/cooking school/shop is housed in a century-old former fruit market surrounded by manicured gardens and sculptures, and it’s chockablock with designer books, art, and accessories ranging from nickel-plated sculptures to fencing sets.

Along different lines—but curated with the same level of care—is Kindel & Company, a “lifestyle mercantile” that specializes in jewelry, flannels, and fragrances. The store is legendary for its creative vignettes and window displays, and it’s also a fantastic source for unique home-décor gifts.

After your day of adventure, secure a table at any number of local culinary gems. We recommend Salt of the Earth, a rustic cafe that bakes its own bread and boasts a consistently wonderful menu dedicated to sustainable food purveyors, or Borrowed Time, a cozy artisanal spot for chef-driven small plates.
