Keeping the Fun Inside & Out
When the weather outside is frightful, it’s always warm and toasty in your luxurious room at the Wickwood Inn. Rather than put on your boots and mittens for a day of play outdoors, you can have a ton of fun exploring the great indoor activities on the Art Coast of Michigan.
Of course, you don’t have to leave the inn at all. Have a fulfilling day of rest and relaxation at the Wickwood inn-side. Stroll down to the dining room for a seasonal American breakfast and begin your day. Appreciate a fresh cup of our Uncommon Coffee Roasters house-blend. Then, curl up with a good book from our library and tuck into one of the cozy reading nooks at Wickwood. Schedule a massage. Or mellow out in front of the fireplace under an ethereal ALT For Living cashmere throw.
Throughout the day, you’ll find all kinds of treats, including an array of tempting afternoon sweets and a selection of locally sourced nibbles and appetizers when our guests gather later for social hour.
If you do venture beyond the comfy surroundings of the Wickwood, you’ll find plenty of ways to amuse yourself in the lovely villages of Saugatuck and Douglas without having to brave the elements. Try bowling at the quaint Alley’s Diner or a game of darts or pinball in the barrel room of Saugatuck Brewing Company. Check out what’s playing on the big screen at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts or go gallery-hopping at the more than 20 galleries and studios that call Saugatuck home.
On the outskirts of town you’ll find the little hamlet of Fennville. There, among the rolling hills and farmland, find two of our favorite places to while away an hour or two. Take a tasting tour of Fenn Valley Vineyards or Virtue Cider for an afternoon of swirling and sipping. Or if craft beer is your beverage of choice, belly up to the bar at the Guardian Brewing Company back in Saugatuck.
If you’d like a little privacy, we can arrange a private tasting for two at the J. Petter Wine Gallery downtown, where you’ll be guided through a carefully curated tasting tour of some of the world’s best vineyard varietals. A private cider tasting at Virtue Cider can also be arranged in advance. Looking for some live music to wind down your day? You’ll find an eclectic roster of live acts at Salt of the Earth or Waypost Brewing Company in Fennville.
Return to the inn for afternoon sweets and curl up in front of the fire with a good book from our library. And if you’re still craving that big family dinner, we’ve got a few fun and lovely suggestions for a private celebration. At the end of the day, you’ll sink into that cloudlike bed—exhausted, satisfied, and basking in the love of your family.
